A pregnant woman places a desperate call to a psychological hotline and is found dead
shortly thereafter, her newborn infant stolen from her womb. A profoundly troubling case
for Inspector Katja Wedekind. Dr. Jaeger, who runs the hotline, helpfully provides Katja
with information, but the infant is nowhere to be found. Soon, another baby is reported
missing, this one kidnapped from its parents in broad daylight. Although the cases seem
unrelated, Katja begins to suspect a link after the second baby is found: the kidnapper
is a mentally unstable woman, Nicole, who had once lost a baby in childbirth – and had
also contacted the same psychological hotline Dr. Jaeger accompanies Katja to the young
woman's prison cell, but just as the emotionally scarred Nicole is opening up to Katja,
Dr. Jaeger intervenes – and Nicole is found dead the following morning, a suicide victim.
Convinced that Dr. Jaeger herself is involved in the kidnappings and the women's deaths,
Katja sets a trap that ultimately snaps shut on the unlikely mastermind of a shocking
human-trafficking organization...
